Know the Warning Signs
AI slop can happen to anyone. Learn to recognize the signs in yourself and the people you love.
Watch for:
- They “delve in.”
- Every reply begins with “Great question!” Even when it wasn't.
- Long, dramatic pauses — usually marked by an em dash.
- Nothing is ever just one thing anymore. “It's not just lasagna. It's a statement.”
- They summarize conversations while you're still having them.
- Their grocery list has a wrap-up paragraph.
- Every day is “today's fast-paced world.”
Also watch for:
- Every opinion starts with “Honestly?”
- They insist you “won't believe” things you would easily believe.
- Oddly specific details nobody asked for: “before it breaks down on a Tuesday at 2pm.”
- Dramatic reveals of what's left. “Strip away the noise, and what's left is…”
What you can do
- Don't panic. Using AI is fine.
- Read it out loud. If it doesn't sound like you, it isn't.
- Approach loved ones with kindness. Never quote-tweet.
- Get help. By visiting this website, you've already taken the first step.
